"The Best of Auckland" - We are proud to announce that the scheduled Auckland closed Junior and Age Group Championships over anniversary weekend (January 27th - 30th 2010) are to be known as 'The Anthony Mosse Classic" - Anthony Mosse is Auckland's best ever swimmer, winning Commonwealth Games Gold (twice, 1986 & 1990), World Championship Silver (1986) and Olympic Bronze (1988). Anthony was inducted into the 'NZ Sports Hall of Fame' in 1995 and was the NZ Swimmer of the Year six times. This event, with an exciting programme being planned and ready for publication shortly will become a highlight on our regional calendar. It is hugely appropriate that we should honour his achievements in a meet which is intended to bring together the best of Auckland's Junior and Age Group swimmers. At our Auckland Centenary celebrations Anthony was recognised as Auckland Swimmer of the decade (1980 - 1989) and as Auckland's Swimmer of the Century (1906 - 2006) .

Melissa Ingram needs your help!!!!
Auckland swimmer Melissa Ingram has represented New Zealand at two Commonwealth Games, four World Championship events and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This year Melissa qualified for her third Commonwealth Games which will take place in Delhi in October. Cadbury is sponsoring the Commonwealth Games team and as part of their sponsorship they awarded 10 athletes with 'Cadbury Chocolate Grants'. Melissa has been awarded one of these grants and needs your help because she has 4008 bars of Cadbury chocolate to sell!!! If any families are able to assist Melissa by selling a box of chocolate it would be much appreciated. A box of chocolate contains 24 bars at $2.50 each, $60 per box. Perhaps some families have businesses where they could leave a box at reception? Or some families love their Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate?
If you are able to help Melissa please email her at mj_ingram246@hotmail.com.

Our congratulations to Alison Fitch on her appointment to the board of Swimming New Zealand. Alison is a member of the Athletes commission for the NZOC and will be well known to most for her distinguished career as a national representative swimmer over many years. She attended the Atlanta (1996) and Athens (2004) Olympics and was a medalist at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games (2006). Alison is a valued member of our ASA team where she serves as the Registrar. In this capacity she sits as a member of the Auckland Swimming board, as a member of the ASA Competitive Swim Group and also as an Auckland selector. Alison recently made a return to the pool as a member of the Stanley Group sponsored 'Bored Bathers' team in the Auckland Swimming League. While we in Auckland like to claim Alison as one of our own because she began swimming with North Shore Swimming in 2000, she hails originally from the Waikato - in this respect she is exceptionally well equipped to understand the diverse needs of the regions of New Zealand, the clubs who constitute the grass roots of the sport and the athletes without whom all we would do would be for nothing. We are proud of Alison and wish her well in her efforts in this new and challenging role.
